Holiday Weekend

It was a double holiday weekend for me this last weekend. Canada Day on the 1st and Independence Day on the 4th. I was patriotically conflicted. :) And with Amanda not being here, it's just not as festive as it might be.

So Thursday night I had a Canada Day barbeque and evening of beer and conversation with my work friends. It was great and went WAY too late, so I stayed the night in White Rock and came back on Friday late morning. Spent Friday in a patriotic game of World of Warcraft. :) It was nice to sit and play all day.

Saturday left for Bainbridge Island where our good friends D & D live. We realized while talking this weekend that we've been friends for 15 years. Wow.

The trip down was less than fun - with holiday traffic at the border the back up was 90 minutes. Then on my way down, I called and asked the best way to get there, and they suggested the Edmonds Ferry. Good Idea, I thought. When I got there, there was a 2 hour wait for the ferry. The line of cars was out of the dock and back up the road leading in. Holy moly. So after another call, I managed to turn around and head to the Seattle dock to take the Seattle Bainbridge Ferry.

And I showed up just in time to watch them load the last car and pull away. So, another hour to wait. All in all the trip took 7 hours, when it should have taken about 4. Ah well...

We had a great time anyway - played some games (Munchkin, Gloom) and went to see The Edge Improv, an improv troupe with their home in the Bainbridge Performing Arts playhouse. It was very good - we laughed a lot. And when D volunteered me to go on stage, imagine the irony in the air when they asked me to take the mic and do sound effects for the scene. :) I even had half a dozen patrons after the show come and give me compliments on my sound effects. :) One woman asked "Do you do this professionally?" I said, "Not anymore." :) Well, we thought it was funny at the time.

On Sunday I was supposed to come home, but I stayed all day... going to dinner at a neighbor's house. It was great food with great people - hard to beat that.

Monday I headed home, and with no traffic I made it to White Rock in less than 4 hours. Worked all day, came home and collapsed.

Thank you D & D for having me, and a fantastic time.

And a good time was had by all. :)
