Skype is a bit of software you can install on your computer that allows you to talk to friends over the internet. If you have broadband this effectively means free phone calls to anywhere in the world, the possibility of 4 way phone conversations (still for free) and surprisingly good sound quality (so long as you use an actual microphone of some type rather than the one built in to a laptop, which tends to lead to massive amounts of echo and a less fun phone conversation).

It's very nice - we approve. Especially as the software is free too :-)

Hmm. I feel an experiment coming on some time.

I advocate it. I'm becoming a Skype pusher, me.

And thank you for being the first to call me. :) That was very cool... We shall have to do that again. :)

It was and we shall. It's fun that it's free and easy and if the people at the other end have to run away now it's not a crisis because the whole conversation was serendipitous anyway. It was lovely to catch up with you 'in person'. I'm now trying to sell Annie on the concept but she's being resistant. However then I mentioned that I thought the sound quality was good enough one could host a 4-way filk through Skype and she came over all thoughtful sounding... Not sure if it's good enough to allow people to sing along but certainly OK for a little bit of fun sharing songs with friends we rarely see (and even more if we mix in webcams...)

Count me in on that.

Yeah, sorry about the sudden end to the conversation there... I'll make more of an effort to "stay on target" next time. Although - with the ubiquitousness of the service, we could talk every day for 5 mintues. :)

I'll be setting Amanda up her own account so she and I can talk during my trips to Taiwan, so we can have even more fun online. :) Make the internet work for YOU I say. :)

Yeah, sorry about the sudden end to the conversation there...

Not at all - I had an importunate Alex and a need to be lying down relaxing anyway, but finding you online was too much to resist :-) Definitely at the worn out stage of pregnancy now, though hopefully things will be better from next week once I'm no longer working.

Welcome to the world of VoIP
Congrats, I have been a Vonage user for almost 2 years now.

I personally like Vonage, as Jessie can use it without having to learn anything new (it uses analog telephones through an IP adaptor).

Definitely cool stuff. I can call Canada for free! Hoser... :)
